Stains and scratches, burn marks, colors, papers, fabrics, writings, impressions, graffitti;
on walls, on floor, on ceiling, in arches, in niches, up steps, thru windows?



I have been impressed and admired the work of both Birgitta De Vos and Marie-Therese De Belder. The sense of natural "being" present in their work, especially the use of materilas, absence of color and expressive texture, always resonated with my personal preference for the impact of time onto surfaces, spaces and materials in general and what resulting language that generates.
Meeting and spending time in conversation with them, an easy task as it always feels that we can talk about nothingness and everything endlesly, finding connections and pathways between seemingly separated things.

I believe they feel, as I do, that All can be read in any small part of our produced narrative (mind+material), details acting as punctuation marks.

The "beautiful RUiN" concept includes various processes into one: recovery, destruction, reassembling, contemplation, manipulating, healing...

Something can fixed to improve its condition or to reveal something previously hidden.

A ruin pre-supposes decay, time impressed upon the material part of a being, slow spontaneous transformation: age. 
A ruin is beautuiful as is ever-changing, and being new at every moment.

Ageing is tranformative, and new. 
Everyday.
